Majority of viewers would read new introduction to Darwin's "On the Origin of Species"

Flemington, NJ, November 25, 2009 – A new media study among 304 viewers of a news clip discussing a new introduction to Charles Darwin’s “On the Origin of Species” revealed that viewer support for teaching creationism in schools declined after watching the video.

The study was conducted by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website on November 23-25 to obtain viewers’ perceptions of a news clip featuring a new introduction to “On the Origin of Species” written and distributed to colleges by the Living Waters Ministries evangelist group to dispute the theory of evolution. To view interest curves and detailed results go to: www.mediacurves.com.

The majority of viewers (65%) indicated that they would read the original version of “On the Origin of Species”, while fewer viewers (60%) indicated that they would read the new introduction. In addition, the majority of viewers (75%) reported that the Living Waters Ministries group should be permitted to distribute its version of “On the Origin of Species” on college campuses.

No one asked if BOTH sides of the question should be taught. I think children should be told that scientists believe this - but many people believe - this!

Although I think Kirk Cameron Has gone entirely too far with this..as well as using underhanded tactics to spread his word, I do feel he is sincere about his beliefs. I also feel schools should be allowed to teach the children on this topic. There is nothing wrong with presenting it as "an opinion" Thier parents are responsible for their belief system, however, a person who is faithful to their God does not ned to be ignorant to other peoples beliefs and ideas.

I think that any form of literature or media that is aimed towards education of a student about creation should be taught in a special class. If a professor made it an assignment to me read Darwin, the Original, I should read it and if a professor made it an assignment to read the Book of Genesis (sp) I should read it. It should not be taught in Elementary thru High School, but it should be offered in college as an elective course not a requirement.

Kirk Cameron is entitled to his opinion, basically, it's only HIS opinion. He's changed religions a few times, how can you believe him? He should get together with Tom Cruise and compare Darwin with L. Ron Hubbard. If religion is taught in schools, it should cover all different beliefs and not impose values on children. Just like with holidays, I can't imagine what other religions think about Christmas.

I loved this survey, it was caught my attention because I feel the universities should teach both theories and allow the student to think and decide for their selves.

I think people have a right to whatever opinion they have, but I do believe as much information as possible should be available so people can make a more informed decision. I am not a major supporter of creationism being taught per say, but why is that alternative barely touched in school.

I feel that both should be taught in the school system because both correlate somewhat, whether we derived from apes or what, someone still had to create the apes, or the earth. Therefore, both sides should be taught. Not being able to hear both sides to the issue makes us bias, and not tolerant of others ideas.

Thank you for letting me take part in the survey. I do think that it is okay to present more than one view of how the earth came to be. That is why I stated that creationism should be taught. I think both creationism and evolution should be taught, rather than ONY evolution.

Religion is a touchy subject. I did not agree with this gentlemen's presumption to go onto campuses or anywhere or have tthe book changed or altered with an introduction. While I DO NOT BELIEVE IN EVOLUTION, I do believe in the Bible's account of Creation. Jehovah God is stronger than a "theory" of evolution. It is up to each individual to come to an accurate Bible knowledge, if they so desire. Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door teaching God's Word, the Bible. Most people reject the option to listen and LEARN the truth from the Bible, including how man was created. Therefore, this man "on a mission" is not going to change the viewpoint of the majority, which the colleges and universities have done - teach evolution as a fact. It is NOT a fact but a THEORY, as the Title of Darwin's book says. I choose to believe in the Creator and His guidebook -- the Bible.

Though I do believe that creationism should be taught in schools, I also believe that evolution should be as well. I do not understand how christianity cannot accept evolution as fact without being sacrilegious. Both God and evolution can be true!

Appreciated the opportunity. Just a sidenote. I find it ridiculous that humanism has been taught in our public schools for over 30 years.Christians are told they are intolerant, when we don't agree with the worldview. Christians are the most discriminated against people worldwide.

I see no reason that both should not be presented in schools. But why teach one without the other=isn't that what our country was founded upon?

I don't think origins should be taught in public school period - creation or evolution. I think evolution is bogus, and I think creation is between man and god, not man and government run public school.
